Truck Licence and Heavy Vehicle Training for Toowoomba

Oz Logistics Training delivers heavy vehicle licensing, Dangerous Goods training and compliance certification for drivers and operators across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs. Built for Darling Downs drivers

Toowoomba and the surrounding Darling Downs run on agriculture, regional freight, construction (with Inland Rail still pulling significant heavy vehicle activity), and the supply chains that feed both directions: produce and grain heading east, machinery and inputs heading west. Drivers in the region progress through licence categories more often than in metro markets, often moving from a car licence through LR or MR for ag work, then up to HR and HC for freight or construction roles.

The training reflects that progression. We run hourly lessons for drivers building up to the test, and Licence in a Day intensives for drivers who are already confident behind the wheel and just need the certification.

Why the SEQ option works for Toowoomba

The travel time from Toowoomba to our Brisbane training sites is about 90 minutes via the Warrego and Centenary highways. For a driver booking the HR Licence in a Day at $995, that’s a single day on the road including travel: down for an early start, training and assessment through the day, back home that evening. It’s not the same as having a facility in town, but it’s close enough that the SEQ option doesn’t add a meaningful logistical cost for most Toowoomba drivers.

For drivers booking hourly lessons (often the right call for first-timers), a few trips spread across a fortnight is workable, particularly for drivers who are in SEQ for other reasons.

Onsite training for Toowoomba businesses

For operators based in Toowoomba and the Darling Downs running freight, agriculture or construction crews, we deliver compliance and assessment training onsite. The standard onsite suite covers Chain of Responsibility (TLIF0080 and TLIF0009), fatigue management (TLIF0005 and TLIF0006), load restraint (TLIA1001 and TLID0015), vehicle inspection (TLIB0002), load and unload plant (RIIHAN308F), and custom VOC assessments. Minimum crew size of five for onsite delivery; smaller groups can be accommodated at our SEQ sites.

VOC assessments can be tailored to specific vehicles and loads, which is particularly useful for ag operators with grain trailers and other configurations not always covered well by a standard assessment.

Compliance training and the regional freight reality

Drivers running long-route freight from the Darling Downs are exposed to fatigue and Chain of Responsibility risk in ways that metro short-route drivers aren’t. The TLIF0005 and TLIF0006 fatigue units and the TLIF0080 and TLIF0009 Chain of Responsibility units are the certifications that tell employers and auditors a driver understands the system, not just the vehicle. Load restraint (TLIA1001, TLID0015) is the third leg, and matters particularly for ag, construction and machinery freight.

We run these as $300 standalone short courses, with bundled crew rates for onsite delivery.

Toowoomba truck training FAQs

Q: Is Toowoomba close enough to Brisbane to do Licence in a Day in one trip?

A: Yes. Toowoomba is about 90 minutes from our Brisbane training sites via the Warrego Highway. The HR and HC Licence in a Day programs are designed as single-day intensives, so a Toowoomba-based driver can drive down for an early start, complete training and assessment, and head home the same evening.

Q: Can I do hourly HR lessons if I’m based in Toowoomba?

A: You can, but it’s only practical if you’re regularly in SEQ. Hourly lessons are $150 for HR and $170 for HC with a two-hour minimum. For most Toowoomba-based drivers, the Licence in a Day option is the more efficient choice.

Q: Do you run training onsite at Darling Downs farms or depots?

A: Yes, for compliance and assessment courses with a minimum group of five. Chain of Responsibility, fatigue management, load restraint, vehicle inspection and custom VOC assessments are all available onsite.

Q: What licence do I need to drive a road train in regional Queensland?

A: A Multi Combination (MC) licence is required for vehicles that exceed the HC scope, including most road train configurations. Our MC training is $2,400 from a HR base or $1,800 from HC.
