Truck Licence and Dangerous Goods Training for Mackay Drivers

Oz Logistics Training delivers heavy vehicle licensing and Dangerous Goods training to drivers and businesses across Mackay and the surrounding region. We run HR, HC and MC licence programs, the TLILIC0001 Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods, Safe Load Programs, and the standard Chain of Responsibility and fatigue management units. All training is delivered on behalf of RTO RAISE (provider number 91655) and leads to nationally recognised certification. We don’t operate a permanent training facility in Mackay; instead, we deliver corporate group training onsite at Mackay-based businesses, and we host individual drivers at our South East Queensland locations.

Who this training is for

Mackay sits at the intersection of three industries that depend on heavy vehicle drivers: coal mining and the supporting service contractors, the sugar and agricultural freight network, and port and bulk handling operations through Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay. Drivers progressing through these industries typically need more than a basic licence. They need Dangerous Goods certification for fuel and explosives carriage, Chain of Responsibility competency for site access, fatigue training for long-shift compliance, and load restraint evidence for audits.

The training we offer is built around that mix. Whether you’re a single driver upgrading from HR to HC for a haulage role, or an operator booking a full crew in for compliance refresh, the courses below cover the certifications most commonly required.

How training is delivered for Mackay-based drivers and businesses

We run training in two formats for the Mackay region.

For businesses, mining contractors and government agencies booking five or more participants, we deliver compliance and assessment training onsite at your Mackay facility. This covers Chain of Responsibility, fatigue, load restraint, vehicle inspection and VOC. Onsite delivery removes the travel cost and downtime of sending a crew to Brisbane, and lets us tailor the assessment to your fleet, your loads, and your site conditions. Group rates and scheduling are arranged directly with our admin team.

For individual drivers, licensing courses are run from our SEQ training sites. The Licence in a Day options were designed exactly for drivers in this position: travel down, complete the course and assessment in a single day, travel back. Drivers who want to spread training out can book hourly lessons instead, with a two-hour minimum.

Compliance training for mining and resources work

Most Mackay drivers eventually work on or near a mine site, which means site induction systems, NHVR audits, and Chain of Responsibility expectations are part of the daily reality. The TLIF0080 and TLIF0009 Chain of Responsibility units, the TLIF0005 and TLIF0006 fatigue units, and the load restraint and load-unload-plant units are the certifications site auditors and contract managers most often check.

We run these as standalone short courses, $300 each, with the option to bundle them for crew bookings. The Safe Load Program at $350 is a common companion certification for drivers carrying loads onto mine and processing sites.

Heavy vehicle and compliance courses

  • HR Licence in a Day – $995. Single-day program at our SEQ training sites, includes the Queensland Transport booking fee.
  • HC Licence in a Day – $1,400. Single-day program, includes booking fee.
  • MC Licence – $2,400 from a HR base, $1,800 from HC.
  • TLILIC0001 Licence to Transport Dangerous Goods – $475. Two consecutive days. The standard Australian Dangerous Goods driver licence.
  • Safe Load Program (SLP) – $350.
  • TLIF0080 / TLIF0009 Chain of Responsibility – $300 each.
  • TLIF0006 / TLIF0005 Fatigue Risk Management – $300 each.
  • TLIB0002 Carry Out Vehicle Inspection – $300.
  • RIIHAN308F Load and Unload Plant – $300.
  • TLIA1001 / TLID0015 Load Restraint – $300.
  • Heavy Vehicle Verification of Competency (VOC) – Custom assessment, two hours, price on application.

Q: Do you have a training facility in Mackay?

A: No. We deliver training in two ways for Mackay: onsite group bookings at Mackay-based businesses for compliance and assessment courses, and individual licensing courses at our South East Queensland training sites. If you’re a single driver looking for HR or HC training, the SEQ Licence in a Day option is usually the most practical.

Q: How much does an HR licence cost for a Mackay driver?

A: The HR Licence in a Day is $995 and includes the Queensland Transport booking fee. Travel to and from SEQ is your own cost. Hourly HR lessons are $150 per hour with a two-hour minimum, useful if you’re already in SEQ for other reasons.
